Harry and Nancy: We Could Use Your Help
By P Alfonso on Jul 24, 2008 | In 1. The Nation
As the so called “Gang of 10” tries to reach a compromise to implement a vote on drilling for oil, politics, as usual, gets in the way of public interest. These brave five Republican and five Democrats, who are stepping outside their party lines for the best interest of our nation, seem to be just talking to a wall.
Follow up:
Senators and Congressmen could debate the issue of off coast drilling or in ANWR for the next ten years, just as they have for the past ten. Debating is not going to give us a drop of oil, bring the price of gas down or keep it from going even higher. Decisiveness and action is a commodity that we find in short supply in Washington. There is no time to debate; something needs to be done now. Liberals claim that drilling is not going to solve the problems and they are intransigent in doing nothing in spite of public opinion. The fact is that doing nothing will bring us nothing and that is unacceptable.
It has taken a few weeks but finally we are beginning to see what the price of gas is doing to our economy; especially our number one necessity “food”. Go into the grocery stores and see how essential food commodities have risen in price, not just pennies but dollars. While we are beginning to starve the poorest in our nation, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid do not appear to be very concerned. They are more interested in being politically correct with their constituency of Liberal Millionaires and Conservationists who are trying to protect the polar bear, caribous and a few fish while the more needed in our society will suffer from starvation. If these critters of nature could understand what is going on, they would be laughing at their insanity.
We are on the verge of a major crisis in the Middle East with the threat of Israel attacking Iran over its nuclear intentions. Iran has already warned the world with following repercussions if attacked. We may try to stay out of the Israel - Iran conflict, but the Iranians may very well draw us in, they have threatened to do so.
Nancy Pelosi instant and superficial ineffective solution to the problem of rising fuel cost is to dig into our Strategic Petroleum Reserve. These 700 billion barrels of oil are stored for use in the event of a national emergency. Any rational person should be able to see that we may have an imminent confrontation with Iran and oil could be in short supply.
Using our Strategic Petroleum Reserves at this time should be inconceivable. This is another good example of how naive and incompetent the Democratic Party leaders are. Didn’t the Democrats have within their party anyone better to promote than these two fools?
