Is a massive Federal financial bailout Socialism?
By P Alfonso on Sep 25, 2008 | In 1. The Nation
This article is an attempt to put the current financial crisis in a nutshell. Hopefully it will make it easier to understand for those who can’t find the time to do the research. To have a more clear understanding of what has really happened, why and who caused it, we need to look back as far as 1977.
2008 Financial Crisis 101
Follow up:
At first look it would appear that the proposed bailout by President Bush on September 24th amounts to Socialism. It also could be seen as a move to save the greedy lending institutions. Wrong in both cases the reality is that it amounts to a $700 billion attempt to rescue our Capitalistic system that for thirty years has gradually eroded by activism of the so called minorities and Liberal Socialist policies. Not to be exclude are some corrupt officials in lending institutions that took advantage of flawed existing rules.
The current housing and mortgage crisis can be traced back to the Socialist policies of the Carter administration when he introduced the Community Reinvestment Act in 1977. This bill reduced the financially safe standards set by lending institutions in order to make minorities, mostly blacks to easily qualify for loans. Bill Clinton modified it in 1995 to make it even easier for borrowers to acquire loans. In 1999 Clinton put even more pressure on Fannie Mae that increased the risk to lenders. These changes were not optional these were federal requirement inserted in the bill. Democrats went further to interfere with Capitalism and made the bill riskier by allowing banks to purchase insurance firms. Republican fought to enforce more strict rules but Democrats and Affirmative Action accused them of discrimination. Near the peak of the housing boom there were plenty of signs that the Socialist lending policies doomsday was near. As early as 2003 George W. Bush issued warnings. Democrats successfully blocked attempts made by the Bush administration to prevent the current crisis by siding with activist such as ACORN, an organization that has been found guilty of elections fraud and supports Barack Obama. The 2006 elections in which Democrats won majority of the House and the Senate made it even more difficult to prevent the present crisis because of the Liberals opposition to make the needed changes.
These events give us a clearer view of how Socialist, activists, organizers and agitators can completely disrupt the normal process of governing our Capitalist Democracy. These groups do not act for the best collective interest of our nation but only in their own selfish interest, although not labeled so it is a form of corruption. Our elections system has been corrupted by the pressure that activist and agitators put on citizens running for office. Our majority rule philosophy has been trashed by minorities activism. Our Democracy is threaten by agitators that represent only minorities and our politicians are catering to them just to win elections.
We are currently a Capitalistic fractured society being torn apart by a Socialist idealism that threatens to destroy our way of life. Just 90 miles off our coast in Cuba there is a prime example that replacing Capitalism with Socialism is not the best way to reward hard working people. Both political parties in our country look for ways to help the underprivileged to overcome their adversities but it is only Liberal Democrats that choose to classify the underachievers as underprivileged. Financial equality is not the way in which a society rewards those who make a greater effort. Russia and China who for nearly a century practiced that proven failed system have drifted away from it. It is ironic to see that the Leftist Socialist and activists in our country are trying to put us on a discredited course that Russia and China have long abandoned.
