Sarah Palin energized North and Central Florida with her appearance yesterday at The Villages in Lady Lake Florida.
Having spent the weekend at Disney World with her family Sarah Palin arrived at 4:30 PM on the Straight Talk Express to a cheering crowd of tens of thousands that had been waiting for hours in scorching heat. McCain-Palin supporters filled the streets of The Villages on a sunny hot day that reached temperatures of over 90 degrees. One of the speakers prior to her arrival recognizing the cruel hot weather drew a huge reaction with the slogan “Sweating for Sarah”.
Follow up:
The enthusiastic crowd not only filled the gated area reserved for the expected crowd but it poured into shops and surrounding streets and sidewalks. Although free water was passed around by campaign volunteers emergency workers kept busy with some of her supporters that became overwhelmed by heat and dehydration. Thousands had to park on the curb of roads and grassy areas to then walk over a mile to reach the rally area. The crowd was estimated by The Villages fire chief at around 60,000.
At her arrival she was cheered by the enthusiastic supporters and signed autographs on her way to the podium. Her speech lasted 24 minutes and covered topics such as the economy and taxes, also took a few shots at Barack Obama. After ending the speech she shook hands and signed autographs for another thirty minutes.
It was exciting to see so many people energized and ready to make a difference in November!
