Florida vs. State Farm and the destruction of the Free Market

There is more bad news for those who wish to remain insured with State Farm. The company had announced earlier this year that it would exit the home insurance market because of State regulations. We are yet to see how that will affect the 800 agents and their 5,000 employees. According to the State, the uncompromising situation is supposedly being for the best interest of the people. Behind every political decision, there is a lobbyist that is looking to benefit from it and not necessarily the people. We the people do not need chaperones. Let the Free Market take its course and let the people decide who they buy their insurance from. If State Farm overprices itself, the Free Market will make the adjustments.
Follow up:
A business must be profitable to succeed and State Farm claims that it has been operating at a loss in the State of Florida. We all are well aware of how susceptible to harsh weather our State is. If they need to raise the premiums, let so be it. State Farm is a reputable company that pays for damages on what it covers and I can vouch for that. I was a victim in 1992 of hurricane Andrew that devastated South Dade County and they paid. Unlike other companies that our State had allowed to do business and became insolvent, the moment claims were filed.
The State will con the people into believing that they can subsidize lower premiums but it is at the expense of tax payers. That is all of us, you and me. They take your money out of your left pocket, put it in the right pocket while keeping a portion, they offer lower quality and try to tell you that you’ve gotten a better deal. I am sure that all of us have had similar experiences.
I have been insured by State Farm for forty years and have never had a problem with them. I no longer live in Miami, as I am a resident of North Central Florida where the storms risk is minimal. They adjust the premiums depending on the risks. So what is the State’s beef with them? There is no doubt in my mind that when I am forced to find a different insurer the coverage will be worse and the premium will be much higher. That is the way that government helps us. It is not about helping the people, it is about controlling the people.
Thanks but no thanks stay out of our lives. With friends like you who needs enemies. The people that are insured with State Farm should make the decision and not some bureaucrat in Tallahassee. Shouldn’t the will of 1.2 million people supersede a couple of taxpayers financed employees in the State Capitol? If not, then what we have here is a Dictatorship.
We already have lost most of our freedom on the national level; let’s at least have the sanity to retain as much as we can from the States. Enough of government intervention, let the Free Market be free, let us be free.

Stop this madness and let the people be free.
