Five good reasons no to go to war with Iran
By P Alfonso on Oct 3, 2009 | In 1. The Nation
Reason one: We are a bankrupted nation that cannot even approve the 2010 budget which started on October 1st. Special continuous resolution had to be passed to avoid shutting down the Federal government. I guess we are now surviving from pay check to pay check not knowing if China and Japan will hand us a check next month. In the midst of this disaster some of our elected officials are talking about another war. Aren't wars, one of the reasons why we are bankrupted? Take Viet Nam for instance, we not only lost the war but it started us on a financial tail spend. The war in Iraq cannot be declared a victory because it is too early to tell if the present Iraqi government will ever survive. Afghanistan has not only being declared unwinnable but it will be lost without tens of thousands of additional troops. This war at best case scenario is predicted as an indefinite stalemate. The Taliban whether we like them or not are Freedom fighters in their own land. They want their occupation ended and will fight until there is none left something that we are not likely to achieve. That is the way these people fight and the reason why history shows that they never have been defeated. We went into Afghanistan to eradicate Al-Qaida but they have moved into Pakistan. Although they have been weakened we cannot get rid of them unless we do something that we cannot, which is to invade Pakistan.
Reason two: Our citizens do not have to be afraid of another nation. We have the capacity to obliterate the world and that should be enough of a deterrent. It appears that it is other nations that should be afraid of us. Yet, we are being bombarded with fear mongering and suggestions that we may need to get involved in yet another war, this time with Iran. Claims are made that it is to perhaps prevent a future attack on our soil. Home Land Security tells us that they cannot prevent an attack if someone was determined to do so. Twice in history, our homeland has been attacked. The first was Pearl Harbor and there is plenty of speculation on whether a surprise attack could have been avoided. Some believe that the attack was permitted in order to bring about popular support into entering WWII which until that point had faced opposition. The second was the attack on 9/11 which is escalating into one of the most controversial and sensitive issues that our nation has ever faced. The questionable in depth detail of events and unanswered questions are rallying protests and demanding answers. It is not just a handful anymore as millions have joined and question the findings of the 9/11 Commission. You Tube has been inundated with the forgotten questionable events of that day. What was actually reported and what has been suggested happen do not seem to match. We could accurately say that in this case one plus one does not equal two. Visit You Tube and decide for yourself.
Reason three: Israel who is our strongest allied in the Middle East rightfully feels threatened because of the language of the Iranian government and their hostility towards Israel. Are those fears exaggerated and are the Iranians bluffing? Perhaps both, it is well known that Israel may possess as many as two hundred nuclear weapons that can be delivered by aircraft, submarines or missiles. This is more than enough to wipe Iran out of the face of the earth. Many others claim that Iran's clergy religious fanaticism would encourage war to expedite the coming of the twelfth Imam prophesy. This view others find baseless and totally nonsense. In addition, a nuclear attack on Israel by Iran would also mean the destruction of the Palestinians and their land which the Iranian government claims to protect. But yet we keep hearing war mongering coming from our elected officials, starting with Senator John McCain. Whose payroll is he on and who does he represent? He has admitted not being good at finances therefore; he doesn't understand that the Chinese and the Japanese are not going to lend us the money to finance another war and Bernanke is just about out of ink.
Reason four: International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei has stated that Iran is not in search of nuclear weapons. Those who are pushing for war would like to discredit ElBaradei assessment although it turns out that he was right concluding on March 19th of 2003 of Iraq not possessing WMDs but we went to war anyway. One would think that if ElBaradei was inept for the job he would have been replace long before now.
Reason five: There are only allegations that Iran is not complying with International laws on their nuclear programs. There are others who argue that Iran is in compliance and that such rhetoric is just an excuse for going into another unnecessary war. Ron Paul has made a lengthy statement on this matter and there is a You Tube video embedded on this link. He states that Iran is in compliance with International law and that there are some that under false pretences are looking to start another war.
For those who claim that we are still sending our soldiers overseas to fight for the Freedom of others perhaps it is time that we wake up to the reality that they need to comeback to fight for the freedom that we are losing at home.
In summary, the real reason for these sudden attacks on Iran appears to be reluctance on giving up the purchasing power of the U.S. Dollar which is virtually already dead. Iran is now trading with Euros and bypassing the trading with Petro-Dollars is not acceptable to some. This whole dollar thing reminds me of the movie "Weekend at Bernie's". Bernie has been killed by the Mob and these two young guys (China & Japan) are carrying the corpse everywhere giving the illusion to Bernie's friends, that he is still alive.
