Economic recovery is Obama’s Magic Kingdom fantasy

Barack Obama first press conference could have been a script from a late night show. We could have given the stand to Chris Rock and make the closing statement “Live from New York is Saturday Night Live”. A well orchestrated conference while holding a list of pre-selected mostly liberal young reporters to ask the questions.
Follow up:
Obama was quick at ridiculing his VP for having put his foot in his mouth again. Poor Joe was just giving an honest assessment that many would agree with. The question from Major Garret from Fox News brought a grin to his face as saying “it figures that a question like this was expected from Fox.” There was a bit of humor when asked about Biden’s remark of a 30% chance that the stimulus package would not work. Helen Thomas partial question was about whom he knew of being a nuclear power in the Middle East. He brushed it off for not having to say “Israel” as they have never acknowledged to be one and left her talking to herself. His answers were actually lectures on selling his stimulus package.
Obama made sure to notice that the previous administration left him with a mess. What he failed to acknowledge was that the mess was not only the fault of the Bush administration but also of Carter and Clinton. To add to the problem we have had two political parties in which most members have been more interested in pursuing their political careers than to look out for the best interest of our nation. He was not about to say that he was so naive and inexperience that he had no clue of the mess he was getting himself into while he was running for President.
A good indication that we face a very grim picture and that the economy cannot be saved became clear when the President said, “Only government can save the economy”. Only when the government stepped aside were the Soviet Union and China able to see economic light. The Cuban people will never see the economic light as long as the government thinks that they are the only hope. Only the people can save the economy when the government steps aside and to the contrary that is not what we are seeing in our country today.
Our current administration only answer is to give more money to the banks to lend more. The banks don’t want to lend because they accurately do not think that the people can take on more debt and be able to repay. The Treasury is going to print over 10 trillion and bankrupt the country. It would have been much wiser to give the people a partially refundable 2 trillion as I stated in my previous article but that would have made too much sense to be grasped by politicians or too inconceivable by economists.
As the stimulus package is still debated, the final outcome is already foreseeable. There is nothing that can save our economy from imminent collapse. It perhaps could be pushed back a few months but the debt acquired and the dominoes effect of unemployment is most likely irreversible. Most people thought that Nancy Pelosi had made a mistake when she stated that failing to pass the stimulus bill would cost 500 million jobs. She was obviously referring to world jobs. The stimulus package is not going to save an economy that has nearly bled to death, has fallen into a comma and there is no more blood to revive it. The urgency of the stimulus package is only to buy as much time as possible to keep the States that are virtually bankrupt from dying this month or the next. None is in graver situation than Pelosi’s home State of California that has already stopped paying their citizens and creditors. To make matters worse the State is contemplating the early release of 58,000 prisoners in overcrowded jails. To have an idea of the kind of problem that such could bring to the citizens of the State, that amount is nearly double the U.S. troops in Afghanistan fighting the Taliban. But yet at a time of economic chaos those prisoners will be unleashed to bring more misery to the law abiding citizens of the State.
Wall Street voted on the Congress stimulus package and Gheithner economic bailout solution. We saw the DOW dropping almost 400 points no quicker than he had offered his much anticipated solution. China was also quick to react by showing concern on the nearly one trillion of our debt that they are holding. The Obama administration is writing the book “Economic Solutions for the Doomed”. Even if we are able to slowdown the fall of our economy, the rest of the world will collapse from the mere fact that we will stop buying from them. As this happens they will not only refuse to finance our debt but will request that we payback what we owe them.
Our government is wasting too much energy in solving an insolvable problem. It is time that they begin to make preparations and find solutions on how to deal with an economic collapse, devaluation of our currency and the hyperinflation that is going to make most of our citizens poor. It is time that they begin to prepare for a real recovery after an economic collapse and stop hallucinating on a recovery that is not going to take place. They need to start making some real preparations about feeding and sheltering the most severely affected victims of the economic collapse and on how to best control civil unrest during that difficult time. Although in secrecy there are indications that they have being preparing for civil unrest for sometime. We can expect that the Washington Mall will witness many protests in the very near future. Perhaps that is why they had included in the stimulus package $650 million to refurbish it. That kind of money would put new sod on it every week for the next ten years as it gets trampled by protesters.
It is unfortunate that at this difficult time in our history we do not have the leadership that is much needed. Both of our political parties have failed us and we the citizens need to take a good look on who has been responsible for the hardship that is descending upon us. As we see our artificially inflated and wasteful economy coming to an end and experience the human suffering that will take place during the next two years, let us hope that such will show us the way to elect real leadership and true public servants on November 2010.
