Can our Internet be shut down to save the status quo?
By P Alfonso on Feb 5, 2011 | In 1. The Nation
Here is a good article on this subject and reference to perhaps a good book to read "Life Inc".
The article briefly explains that the Internet shut down that is currently experienced in Egypt can be done to us. Shutting down cell phones would even be less complicated. One can say "No it could not happen here". The universal reality is that when the people threaten government, they will do anything and everything within their power to stay in control.
Many governing officials in our nation have in fact committed crimes against our citizens and our nation by allowing it to come to its present condition and continuing to deny it. To be noted is that during revolts other crimes are committed against the people for which officials are held accountable. A successful revolt and a movement of a pro Constitution and Democracy change in the status quo would open investigations with catastrophic consequences for some serving or previously serving public officials. Revolts not likely begin with the quest for political change; it is poverty and hunger that bring about political changes. It is never a clear win but just a series of negotiations and compromises.
Those in our nation who are presently still living in some comfort may not perceive the condition in which a large and growing segment of our population is living in:
There are 15 million unemployed and millions of others deceivingly not counted as such.
Government reports 44 million in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) aka as Food Stamps, this number is rapidly continuing to grow.
Young people are graduating from colleges and universities with large debts and no jobs. It is predicted because of such that college and university enrollment will drop drastically in the near future creating a new bubble.
Millions of baby boomers who are coming of retirement age are unable to retire. This will keep millions of existing jobs out of the reach of the younger generation trying to enter the work force.
There are many other factors but these existing conditions are now being further aggravated by the rise in food prices which eventually could ignite the fire for a revolt.
All of this is taking place while our elected officials continue to lie about an economic recovery that does not exist and a present economic condition that is artificially inflated with the fabrication of non-existent trillions of dollars pumped by the Fed into a near death economy.
The saying goes that "All good things must come to an end" but we are in reality passed that stage and need to look at it as if "All bad must things come to an end" because realistically there is where we are.
A successful big change in the status quo could force some of our past and present political leaders into exile or face prosecution and imprisonment. Where in our nation we cannot hold accountable a Dictator there are many elected officials that can be prosecuted for abuse of power and accepting bribes or illegal contributions while holding office or to be elected. If nothing else for just plainly and knowingly deceiving the people such as falsifying data and making false statements to the public and allowing bankers and corporations to steal from our coffers and natural resources. The list of crimes that have been committed in our nation against the people under the label of Democracy and the delusion of free and fair elections is immense. Visit this link which illustrates the difficulties of exiled Dictators and politicians, which is why they fight so hard to stay in power.
The new tool of Dictatorships and our government is trying to get their own.
